Grandiose exhibitionism, which is marked by drives for self-promotion and self-absorption, is one of the main characteristics of narcissism. These characteristics are both ideal for our recent digital environment. This is why, narcissistic people are more than anything else driven to be the centre of attention, even if it involves acting in a weird strange, or inappropriate way toward others.

In simple terms, someone with higher levels of narcissism is more likely to participate in exhibitionist behaviours on the internet, which will further fuel their narcissistic tendencies. Furthermore, experimental and longitudinal research shows that social media platforms, however momentarily, boost our perceptions of our own significance and individuality.

In present days, since technology has made public displays of entitlement, self-promotion, and self-centeredness acceptable, narcissism has become more commonplace, even if you do not belong to the 5% of people who fit the medical criteria for pathological or clinical narcissism. However, in a real workplace, you would be considered a very annoying coworker if you constantly brag to everyone, pay little attention to what others have to say, and share everything you do with them.
