Covert narcissists are not like overt narcissists. It means they usually can’t fulfill their narcissistic supply from external validation like the overt ones. Also, they might not be that attractive or accomplished like overt narcissists, so they apply other techniques to gain adoration and external validation.
They might appear calm on the outside, but there is a lot of rage behind their calm demeanor. However, there are some obvious signs in their behavior that can help you to identify the covert narcissists:
i) They are extremely sensitive to comments from others. Even any simple remarks are taken as criticism. As a result, the other person ends up apologizing and feeling guilty for their comments even though they didn’t mean to offend the covert narc.
ii) They can’t handle any inquiries or answer questions. They have a problem with meaningful conversations as they take everything as a personal attack. This is why they lack a sense of humour and take everything the wrong way.
iii) They don’t like when other people are receiving any appreciation and praise. They might not show it directly but they feel they are the only ones who should feel praised because they perceive themselves as superior to others.
So, if you come across any of the above-mentioned signs, avoid being entangled with them or their wicked games. Rather, spend your valuable time with quality people. Because covert narcissists are not worth your time and energy in the slightest.
