Silent treatment is a form of emotional abuse, and it’s never an acceptable way to treat someone. First, it’s important to understand that the silent treatment is not your fault. The other person is responsible. If you have been on the receiving end of the silent treatment, you know how it can feel like you are being ignored or invisible.

But what is the best way to respond to the silent treatment?

The most effective way would be to distance yourself from the situation. In the narcissist’s case, “the situation” would be the narcissist. You can’t chase or even think about contacting them while they are giving you the silent treatment.

Rather than attempting to seek attention from the narcissist, divert your attention toward yourself and focus on creating your value. Again your objective is to focus on yourself. So, try doing things that make you feel empowered most importantly make you feel good about yourself.
